When we first stumbled upon PUNKS NOT DAD, its true to say that it’s not everyday you find a band who claims to be “the true voice of a generation”.. But that’s what PUNKS NOT DAD actually are – and the generation they are speaking for are Dadpunks everywhere! When we heard their album “WE ARE THE DADS” we knew immediately they were a perfect addition to the X Fist roster!
And what a few months it’s been since then! June 2009 saw the band have their anthem “IN ME SHED” from the album picked up as the Official Song of National Shed Week (yes it does exist and we are not making it up!!), and in turn not only became the very first digital only single we had released, but also a YouTube phenomenon – where the video got over 20,000 plays in the space of a couple of days, in part due to the fact that Lisa Rogers (from TV’s “Scrapheap Challenge” agreed to appear in it) and in part from it just capturing people’s imagination across the t’interweb. For a while there were more people on YouTube watching Punks Not Dad than there were watching Mariah Carey and Kylie. Amazing!!
Not ones to rest on their laurels, the band also released a follow up video late in 2009 alerting the nation to the dangers of a far greater menace than Swine flu – the debilitating virus of “Manflu”. What’s next for PUNKS NOT DAD we wait to see, but whatever it is, it will be something special – and if you are of a certain age and want a band that speaks to you, look no further – you have found them!!
