Throughout the first part of the Noughties, BLOCKO were one of the mainstays of the UK underground punk scene, releasing two highly acclaimed albums for us and touring the USA, Europe and Japan with the likes of STRIKE ANYWHERE and HOT WATER MUSIC, and influencing the sound of many of the current crop of new bands. Now, five years after BLOCKO’s demise, guitarist/singer Nij Lynk is back with his first new songs and a new band since BLOCKO's demise - NEW SET OF BRUISES.
Based on the Isle Of Wight and seeing Nij more than ably backed by the tight as you like rhythm section of Sam (Drums) and Liam (Bass) , the first offering by NEW SET OF BRUISES has an assured and mature sound that doesn’t sound like a debut, NEW SET OF BRUISES has built on Nij’s unmistakable guitar and voice, and manage to sound both sparklingly original whilst also reassuringly familiar. The same inspiration points are there to be seen – the angular guitar of LEATHERFACE and DRIVE, complemented with powerful hooks and the prevalence of a slightly harder rock edge demonstrating Nij’s influence from the late great Wiz and MEGA CITY 4
