I first heard DRIVE back in early 1990 when an old pal of mine dubbed me a copy of their demo onto an old TDKC60 – having heard that it was quite obvious that DRIVE were destined for great things, and with their wonderful pop-punk that added elements of DINOSAUR JR, HUSKER DU and LEMONHEADS into the mix, DRIVE released a brace of some fine 12” singles (“Greasegun” actually cracking the Indie Top 10 singles chart back when that actually meant something!) and one fine Frankie Stubbs produced album in “Out Freakage”.
The “Discography” CD compiles all of those fine recordings plus a couple of rare gems and is an essential purchase to see where the likes of later bands such as BLOCKO for example were inspired! Despite living on different continents, DRIVE also reformed recently for two tours of Japan plus a handful of UK dates, and there was talk of potentially a new album at some stage..
